A call to the nations of Europe

The National Days of Prayer Movement in Europe

“… if my people, who are called by my name, humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and forgive their sin, and heal their land.”

Bible, 2 Chronicles 7:14

Our mission

The mission of the National Days of Prayer Movement in Europe is to encourage the establishment of a National Day of Prayer at the country level in every European country, fostering unity among the peoples of Europe through common prayer for their nations, freedom, the common good, peace, and a prosperous future for the European continent.

  • Demonstrating respect for spiritual heritage and freedom of religion.

For Churches & Religious Communities

  • Advancing interfaith and interdenominational dialogue and cooperation.
  • Uniting believers in prayer for their nation and its people.
  • Strengthening the role of churches in serving society and local communities.
  • Creating a common platform for spiritual unity.
  • Affirming the importance of faith, hope, and moral values in public life.

Throughout history

From the Middle Ages to the present day

Spiritual and national leaders across Europe have called their peoples to unite in prayer during critical moments of challenge and decision. These initiatives strengthened social cohesion, inspired hope and faith, and in certain instances played a significant role in events that shaped the destiny of nations.

A European precedent

Ukraine — the first country in Europe

On 12 February 2025 the Parliament of Ukraine passed a resolution establishing 24 February as the National Day of Prayer — making Ukraine the first European country to recognise a National Day of Prayer at the country level.

The first National Day of Prayer was observed on 24 February 2025, within days of the law being adopted. A year later, on 24 February 2026, the day was marked by an interfaith prayer service at St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv — the first official, intergovernmental prayer of its kind, attended by the President of Ukraine together with heads of state and government from across the continent.

The history of Europe reminds us that prayer has often been a powerful force for unity, renewal, and hope for future generations.
